Power outages trigger protests across city amid heatwave
Lucknow, June 20 -- As a severe heatwave continues to grip the city, power outages and low-voltage problems triggered protests in several localities, with residents accusing electricity officials of failing to respond promptly to complaints.
In Takrohi's Mahavirpuram area, residents staged a late-night protest at the Amrai village substation after power remained disrupted from around 8.15 pm to 3.30 am. Officials later attributed the outage to a burnt ABC line.
A nearly 10-hour outage under the FCI substation sparked protests in Adarsh Vihar, Narauna and Bhuhar areas. Residents said power supply, disrupted around 10.30 pm on Thursday, was restored only around 8 am on Friday. Chief engineer Ram Kumar said a cable fault caused the disruption. In Alambagh's Natkheda Road area, a fault in an underground low-tension cable disrupted supply for most of Friday, also affecting water supply. Electricity was restored after damaged cables were replaced.
A technical fault in Jawahar Bhawan's internal electrical system affected power supply in Jawahar Bhawan and Indira Bhawan on Friday evening.
Residents also reported recurring outages linked to the Noor Bari substation. Protests and complaints over prolonged power cuts were also reported from Ismailganj in Chinhat, and areas served by the New Utrethia and Ambedkar University substations....
