Power cuts spark protests across city
Lucknow, May 21 -- Prolonged power cuts amid the heatwave triggered protests in several parts of Lucknow on Tuesday night and Wednesday, with residents gathering outside power houses demanding restoration of supply.
In Rajajipuram's Saripur locality, residents protested against outages and repeated faults. Lucknow West MLA Arman Khan staged a dharna at Tal Katora Power House and accused the electricity department of administrative failure.
He alleged residents were facing water shortage due to disrupted supply and said officials were not responding to complaints. Khan said the superintendent engineer assured him that the situation would improve within five days.
At the RDSO Power House in Kesari Kheda, a large number of residents gathered late at night over repeated tripping and outages. Police teams reached the spot after the protest intensified. Local corporator Devendra Singh Yadav alleged transformer faults in Surya Nagar were affecting around 25,000 residents.
Residents also staged protests at Ambedkar Power House in Nadarganj over repeated outages.
In Loulai near Chinhat, residents alleged electricity supply remained disrupted for nearly 24 hours, leading to a drinking water crisis in around 200 households. Madhyanchal Vidyut Nigam managing director Riya Kejriwal inspected Shivpuri Substation and directed officials to keep consumers informed through WhatsApp groups.
Outages were also reported from Bijnaur, Nilmatha, Gomti Nagar, Alambagh, Chowk and Kakori. In Faizullaganj, a transformer caught fire late at night, disrupting supply in nearby areas....
