Potholes, dug-up roads trouble commuters
Lucknow, May 15 -- Repeated digging and unfinished restoration work on roads across Lucknow have become a civic concern, with commuters facing daily inconvenience due to potholes, loose gravel, dust pollution and damaged stretches in several parts of the city.
Roads in areas including Gomti Nagar, Vibhuti Khand, Charbagh, Dalibagh and Aliganj have reportedly been dug up again for cable and pipeline work soon after repairs, raising questions about coordination between civic and utility departments.
Residents alleged that roads are being reconstructed without first completing underground infrastructure work, resulting in repeated excavation and alleged wastage of public funds.
One of the worst-hit stretches is outside the Vibhuti Khand police station, where road work under CM Grid funds remains incomplete. Large portions are still covered with gravel, causing dust pollution and unsafe conditions for motorists and pedestrians. The issue has also surfaced near Kisan Bazaar along Shaheed Path, where a recently built road by the LMC was dug up again within days for cable laying work.
Azeem, a trader at Kisan Bazaar, said the road was rebuilt only a few days ago before another agency allegedly dug it up during the night, leaving the stretch unattended and affecting commuters and businesses. Road conditions have also worsened near Jail Road from Charbagh, while in Dalibagh and Aliganj near Neera Hospital, potholes and damaged stretches continue to slow traffic. Residents alleged that departments often fail to restore roads properly after excavation.
With monsoon approaching, residents fear the damaged roads and potholes may worsen further....
