AGRA, Aug. 3 -- Four fairs will be organised at Shiva temples located in the four corners of Agra during the holy month of Sawan. The first fair will be held at the Rajeshwar Temple on Monday, followed by three more fairs at the remaining temples on successive Mondays of the month. According to deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Syed Abbas Ali, the police have made comprehensive security and traffic arrangements for the month. The DCP said the four fairs held during the holy month of Sawan attract large numbers of Shiva devotees. He said meetings are being held with stakeholders, traffic diversions will remain in force, CCTV cameras are being installed, and an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) will be deployed at each fair every Monday. The tradition of the sawan melas has continued for generations, following the same sequence every year. The fairs are held at Shiva temples located in the four corners of Agra, beginning with the Rajeshwar Mahadev Temple on the first Monday of Sawan and concluding at the Prithvinath Temple on the fourth Monday of the holy month. The fair held on the second Monday of Sawan at Balkeshwar Mahadev Temple has special significance, with thousands of Shiva devotees undertaking a parikrama that covers all four Shiva temples. The Kailash Fair, held on the third Monday of Sawan, is observed as a local holiday and is regarded as the most significant of the four fairs. Both the Balkeshwar and Kailash fairs are organised at Shiva temples on the banks of the Yamuna, prompting authorities to make additional security arrangements as large numbers of devotees take a holy dip in the river ....
