PRAYAGRAJ, June 28 -- A dispute over a Tazia procession route turned violent late Friday night in Anapur town, under the Nawabganj police station area of Prayagraj. Several police personnel were injured after a mob attacked them while they were attempting to mediate the situation. According to police, tensions flared between two groups over the proposed procession path. A police team arrived at the scene to mediate, but members of one group suddenly turned aggressive, attacking the officers with sharp-edged weapons, bricks, stones and sticks. The injured include Anapur outpost in-charge Akash Sachan, who sustained serious head injuries. Other injured personnel include constables Arvind Kumar Lal, Saurabh Kumar Rai, Kavita, and Archana. The officers were taken to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Kaudihar. Dr Amresh Verma, superintendent of CHC Kaudihar, reported that Akash Sachan required three stitches for a severe head injury and was referred to Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital for advanced care. The other injured personnel received treatment at the CHC. Following the incident, police registered a case against 21 named individuals and 15 unidentified persons on various serious charges. Police have detained 11 suspects, including six women and five men, who have been remanded to judicial custody. Additional security forces have been deployed in the area to maintain order. Senior police officials visited the site to review the situation and directed officers to take strict action against those responsible. "Anyone found involved in disturbing public peace or attacking law enforcement personnel will face stringent legal action," said SHO Pankaj Awasthi, adding that the investigation is ongoing....
