Police scan CCTV footage, digital trails to trace POCSO accused
Haridwar, Sept. 1 -- Police are reviewing extensive CCTV recordings, digital surveillance inputs and other evidence to trace an unidentified man accused of raping a Class VII student at a hotel near the railway station in Rishikesh, officials said on Monday. According to the police, the minor came into contact with the accused through a social media platform. The accused allegedly called her to the hotel he was staying at on Saturday on the pretext of meeting her.
The incident came to light on Sunday when the girl began bleeding profusely and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. She told the police that the man had allegedly raped her at the hotel. Yashpal Singh Bisht, in-charge of the city police station, said the accused allegedly confined the girl in the hotel room for around two hours and threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Medical examination subsequently confirmed injuries consistent with the alleged sexual assault, police said. "A rape case has been registered under the sections of BNS. Police teams are examining CCTV footage and digital evidence to identify and trace the accused," Bisht said.
