Police constable critically injured in chopper attack during vehicle check
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 12 -- A 32-year-old police constable is in critical condition after being attacked with a chopper during a routine vehicle inspection in the Shah Jamalpur area of Pratapgarh early Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 2:00 am when constables Ajit Kumar Yadav and Jeeutlal, assigned to the Kunda police station, were conducting night patrols near the Shah Jamalpur border. The officers stopped five men traveling on two motorcycles; the individuals allegedly attempted to flee the scene. When the officers intervened, one assailant struck Ajit Kumar Yadav on the head with a chopper with the intent to kill, before threatening both officers and escaping.
Following the attack, the injured constable was rushed to a community health center before being referred to Prayagraj for advanced medical care.
Based on the constable's complaint, police have registered a case of attempt to murder and obstruction of government work against three named suspects Brijesh Saroj (alias Pintu) of Matadin Ka Purwa, and Dharmpal and Mohit Saroj of Akhtiyari along with two unidentified persons. Sub-inspector Durgesh Singh confirmed the arrest of the primary accused, Dharmpal, on Friday. The motorcycle used in the crime has been seized, and the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
