Police bust ganja smuggling racket
Meerut, July 14 -- In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Muzaffarnagar Police dismantled an interstate ganja smuggling network under 'Operation Savera', arresting four alleged traffickers, including a woman, and seizing 50 kilograms of cannabis valued at approximately Rs.10 lakh. Police launched a wider investigation to identify the alleged masterminds and uncover the entire supply chain behind the syndicate. Addressing a press conference at the police office on Monday, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar Verma said the breakthrough came during a joint operation conducted by the Civil Lines police station and the Special Operations Group (SOG) near Bamanheri railway station.
The joint team was carrying out routine vehicle checks when they intercepted a car. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 50 kilograms of ganja, following which all four occupants, including a woman, were arrested on the spot. During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that the consignment was destined for two suspected drug traffickers based in Ghaziabad. According to police, the arrested individuals are residents of MP, Bihar and Chhattisgarh....
