PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 30 -- A revenue inspector of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a Rs.20,000 bribe from a resident of Shantipuram in exchange for revising the house tax assessment of a property. The anti-corruption organisation team caught revenue inspector Radha Devi red-handed at the Nagar Nigam's Zone 7 office in Phaphamau at around 1:15 pm, officials said. The complainant, Shariq Ahmed, a resident of Shantipuram Gaddopur, had approached the anti-corruption organisation alleging that Devi had demanded Rs.20,000 for correcting the inflated house tax assessed on a property registered in his mother's name. Acting on the complaint, a 14-member anti-corruption team laid a trap and caught the revenue inspector while allegedly accepting the bribe. Devi, originally from Chhitpalgarh village in Mandhata area of Pratapgarh, lives in Govindpur, Shivkuti, Prayagraj.
