Plans afoot for heritage wedding, hospitality destination makeover
Lucknow, June 20 -- Lucknow's iconic Chhattar Manzil is poised for a new chapter in its storied history, with the Uttar Pradesh government planning to transform the heritage landmark into a world-class hospitality and wedding destination by 2027-28.
Envisioned on the lines of heritage venues in Jaipur and Udaipur, the ambitious project seeks to position Chhattar Manzil as a premier destination for luxury weddings, cultural events and heritage tourism while preserving its architectural and historical significance.
The roadmap for the redevelopment was reviewed on Friday by additional chief secretary, tourism, culture and religious affairs, Amrit Abhijat, during an on-site inspection of the heritage complex. Senior officials and conservation experts presented plans for the adaptive reuse of the monument, aimed at restoring its grandeur and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
The project aims to create an immersive heritage destination where visitors can experience the architecture, cuisine, music, arts and traditions of Awadh in an authentic setting.
The plans include restoration of key architectural features, development of hospitality infrastructure, creation of curated cultural experiences and enhancement of public spaces within the complex.
"The project includes heritage conservation, hospitality infrastructure, visitor experience enhancement, landscape development, sustainability measures and a long-term asset management strategy," said Amrit Abhijat. "The objective is to preserve the monument's historic character while creating a sustainable model that contributes to tourism growth and economic development."
Standing on the banks of the Gomti River, Chhattar Manzil remains one of the most recognisable symbols of Lucknow's Nawabi legacy.
