Pink Wave to spread breast cancer awareness
LUCKNOW, Oct. 2 -- With breast cancer cases continuing to rise and accounting for a substantial share of cancers diagnosed among women, doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) are emphasising early detection as key to improving treatment outcomes.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Society of SGPGIMS, in collaboration with Lucknow Golf Club, will organise Pink Wave 2026 on October 4 to promote breast cancer awareness in public spaces. The event will feature an awareness walkathon, vintage car rally and bike rally, focusing on prevention, symptoms, screening and timely treatment.
The walkathon will start and finish at 1090 Chauraha, covering the Food Valley-Samta Mulak Chauraha-1090 Chauraha route. Participants will assemble at 6.30am, with the event flagged off at 7am. Breast cancer survivors will also be felicitated.
While sharing the details about the event, head of the department of endocrine & breast surgery at SGPGIMS and coordinator of the Breast Cancer Awareness Society, Dr Gaurav Agarwal said breast cancer incidence is rising by around 0.5% to 1.5% annually and accounts for nearly 30% of cancers reported among women. He said breast cancer detected at an early stage is highly treatable, with significantly better outcomes than cases diagnosed at an advanced stage....
