PDA to build affordable flats on land reclaimed from slain gangster
PRAYAGRAJ, June 28 -- The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) is set to construct more than 200 affordable flats for homeless and low-income families on over 12,000 square metres of land in the Kasari-Masari residential scheme that was allegedly encroached upon by slain mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.
According to PDA officials, majority of the proposed housing units will be developed under the low-income group (LIG) category and priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. The authority also plans to build a limited number of 2 BHK flats, expected to cost between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. In addition, housing for economically weaker sections is proposed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Officials said Atiq Ahmed allegedly occupied the land nearly two decades ago. The encroached plot is located within the PDA residential scheme opposite the residence of Ahmead. A PDA team has already completed a survey of the site for the proposed group housing project.
Lekhpal Anshuman Singh said the survey report has been submitted to senior PDA officials and construction is expected to commence soon.
This is not the first time housing has been developed on land reclaimed from Atiq Ahmed's alleged encroachments.
Three years ago, the PDA constructed PMAY flats on land recovered from Ahmed in Lukerganj.
Under that project, 76 flats were built on 1,731 square metres of land, with the PDA completing construction within 18 months....
