LUCKNOW, Sept. 1 -- MBBS doctors posted in rural areas under the Uttar Pradesh government's mandatory two-year service bond, staged a protest on Monday, demanding parity in salary and basic facilities. Doctors from across the state staged a sit-in at the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) here in Gomti Nagar. The protesting doctors alleged that while those posted at medical colleges receive around Rs.1 lakh per month under Grade Pay Rs.5,400, Level-10, along with facilities such as housing, round-the-clock electricity and security, the medical officers serving at rural Community Health Centres (CHCs) are paid only around Rs.50,000-55,000 per month, stated a press release shared with the media. Doctors said they face difficult working conditions in rural postings, including inadequate accommodation and security, poor sanitation and a lack of basic amenities. They also highlighted risks from snakes and other animals and difficulties in reaching health facilities during the monsoon due to waterlogging, it stated. The doctors claimed that they have repeatedly submitted representations to the DGME and DGHS, but the issue remains unresolved.
