Pause, think and then decide: SC judge to judicial officers
LUCKNOW, May 18 -- Judicial officers should dispense justice in such a way that they are remembered even after their transfer, said Supreme Court Judge Justice Vikram Nath.
Justice Nath was in the state capital on Saturday for a daylong conference organised at Judicial Training and Research Institute. The objective was to strengthen professional competence, ethical orientation, judicial sensitivity, and technological awareness among newly inducted judicial officers of the state judiciary.
The SC judge personally interacted with the judicial officers of 2022 batch. Addressing the gathering, Justice Nath said judicial officers should pause, think and then decide. The young officers after getting selected should not become complacent but should continue their hard work, he added.
In her address, Justice BV Nagarathna of the Supreme Court emphasised that young judicial officers have an important responsibility of maintaining faith of the people in the judicial system.
Also speaking on the occasion, Allahabad high court Chief Justice Arun Bhansali laid stress on the growing importance of judicial skills in the modern justice delivery system.
He emphasised that the effective administration of justice requires not only sound knowledge of law but also effective court management, communication skills, technological adaptability and a humane approach while dealing with litigants.
He observed that justice is not merely an application of law but it an application of law with wisdom, integrity and empathy. In the technical session Justice Ajay Bhanot of the Allahabad high court on 'biases in decision-making' highlighted the importance of judicial self-awareness and observed that judicial officers must remain conscious of their inherent biases to ensure impartial, fair and objective adjudication.
Justice Atul Sreedharan of the Allahabad high court emphasised that judicial officers should endeavour to write judgments in simple, clear and comprehensible language and should avoid use of complicated or difficult expressions unless necessitated by the facts and circumstances of the case.
Delivering the welcome address, Justice Rajan Roy of the Allahabad high court stressed that judicial education is a continuous process and that newly recruited judicial officers must strive to cultivate fairness, patience, discipline, humility and commitment towards constitutional values.
