LUCKNOW, Aug. 25 -- Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Monday directed officials of the health department to strengthen the surveillance system and improve preparedness, in the wake of a swine flu scare. In a letter to the additional chief secretary, medical and health, Amit Kumar Ghosh, and the director-general of health, Dr Pawan Kumar Arun, he asked them to ensure continuous review and effective monitoring of swine flu cases. "Ensure that hospitals are equipped with the necessary medicines, testing, and treatment facilities. Patients should not face any difficulties in receiving treatment and that they should receive timely medical care," said Pathak. Pathak, who is also health minister of UP, has directed officials to ensure timely identification and immediate medical treatment of critical patients.
