Passenger killed by speeding train after panic exit from halted express
Kanpur, April 5 -- Dilabar Hussain, 33, a resident of Doboka Pathher in Assam's Nagaon district, was killed by a speeding train near Samho station in Bharthana on Saturday.
The incident occurred after smoke from a pantry car wheel forced the Okha-Guwahati Express to halt, leading panicked travellers to step off onto the tracks.
The train, travelling from Etawah towards Kanpur, was stopped near Nagla Muchhariyan village, west of Samho station, after smoke was spotted rising from the wheels near the 13th coach. Railway staff halted the train as a precaution and called a technical team, which arrived at the spot, doused the smoke, and inspected the wheels. A technical fault was identified and repaired on the spot, and the train remained halted for about 10 minutes.
During the stoppage, several passengers disembarked and moved around the track area, some to stretch and others to get a closer look at the issue. When repairs were completed and the train prepared to depart, passengers rushed to reboard. In the scramble, Hussain stepped onto the adjacent track. The Sealdah Express, approaching from the Kanpur side, was not visible through the thick smoke and struck him before he could move to safety.HTC...
