Lucknow, Sept. 17 -- The Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar on Monday held an important meeting with a delegation of Panchayat Sahayaks and gave positive assurances on several of their long-pending demands. Rajbhar assured the representatives that the monthly honorarium of Panchayat Sahayaks would be paid directly into their bank accounts through the direct benefit transfer system. He also decided that powers related to the appointment and termination of Panchayat Sahayaks would rest with the district magistrate concerned to check arbitrary action at the Gram Pradhan level. Women Panchayat Sahayaks will be granted maternity leave as per government rules and provisions. In a major relief, the monthly honorarium has been increased from the existing Rs.6,000 to Rs.9,000. Additionally, cases registered against Panchayat Sahayaks in connection with their agitation and demands will be reviewed and withdrawn as per rules and due legal process....
