PRAYAGRAJ, May 22 -- Residents of Sangam City will soon have a new recreational attraction, as paddle boat rides on the Yamuna are set to begin from next month. The Boat Club has ordered 10 new paddle boats, which are expected to be delivered by a Chandigarh-based company by the end of this month. Boat Club officer DP Singh said that each paddle boat will have seating capacity for four people and will cost Rs 1.10 lakh. Visitors will be able to enjoy the facility at a ticket price of Rs 200 per person for a maximum duration of one hour. Highlighting safety and design features, Singh stated that the paddle boats are built using a buoyant tense pattern, making them virtually unsinkable. "Even if filled with water, these boats will not sink due to their structural design. However, given that this is a water-based activity, a well-equipped safety team with a motorboat will be stationed at the Boat Club to handle any emergency," he said. In addition to the new boating facility, a budget of Rs 57 lakh has been sanctioned for the renovation of the club premises. The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), in its recent meeting, also decided to engage a private firm to enhance the appearance and infrastructure of the club's double-storied building located on the Yamuna banks near the Sangam. Looking ahead to the 2031 Kumbh, authorities have proposed redeveloping the Boat Club under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to further improve its facilities and attract visitors. At present, the Boat Club operates 37 canoe and karaoke boats of varying capacities-single, double, and four-seater-which are primarily used to promote water sports skills among children....
