PRAYAGRAJ, June 19 -- A case has been registered against Samajwadi Party MLA from Raniganj constituency in Pratapgarh district, Rakesh Kumar Verma, over an allegedly objectionable Facebook post targeting BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut. The complaint was lodged at the cyber police station by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) district president Anshuman Singh, who alleged that the MLA's remarks were insulting, indecent and derogatory towards women. According to the police, Verma had shared a Facebook post on Wednesday featuring photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Kangana Ranaut and BJP leader Sayoni Ghosh, a former Trinamool Congress MP from West Bengal who recently joined the BJP. In the post, the MLA allegedly wrote in Hindi: "Kangana madam bach ke rehna, rakhna poora hosh, kahi apki jagah na hathiya le ye Sayani Ghosh (Kangana Madam, stay alert and be careful, lest Sayoni Ghosh takes your place)." The post drew criticism from several social media users and BJP leaders, who termed the remarks inappropriate and violative of the dignity of women. In his complaint, Singh alleged that the language used in the post hurt the dignity and honour of women and was unbecoming of a public representative. He further stated that such comments on a public platform could adversely affect social harmony and were contrary to democratic values and constitutional decorum. "Acting on the complaint, a case has been registered against MLA RK Verma under Section 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to intentional insult with the intent to breach peace and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act pertaining to publishing or transmitting of obscene material in electronic form," said Rajeev Tiwari, in-charge of Cyber police station, Pratapgarh.
