Owner, operators of warehouse booked after fire kills two guards
Haldwani, June 13 -- An FIR has been registered against the operators, management and building owner of a warehouse in Haldwani following the deaths of two security guards in a massive fire that broke out at the facility earlier this month, police said, adding that preliminary investigation has revealed serious lapses in fire safety measures and alleged violations of norms related to human safety.
According to station house officer (SHO) Vijay Mehta, the fire broke out on the night of June 5 at a warehouse located opposite Sheetal Hotel on Rampur Road. The deceased were identified as Narendra Prasad (35), a resident of Gaulapar, and Amit Arya (25), a resident of Rampur Road. Both were employed as security guards and were present inside the warehouse when the fire erupted.
"It was revealed during the preliminary investigation that the warehouse was being operated by M&M Logistics Solutions, which handled the storage and distribution of Amazon goods. The premises were also being used for residential purposes and both deceased employees were residing there," said Mehta.
Police further found that the mandatory Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) had not been obtained for the warehouse.
The facility allegedly lacked basic fire safety infrastructure and alternative evacuation arrangements.
"During the investigation, it was also found that flammable insulation material had been used in the structure, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire," said SHO Mehta, adding that police have registered a case against directors of M&M Logistics Solutions, other company officials and the building owner under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita....
