LUCKNOW, Aug. 29 -- More than 9.26 lakh passengers travelled free on Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses on Thursday, the first day of the Raksha Bandhan free travel facility. Over 6.03 lakh women and 3.22 lakh fellow passengers availed the benefit, the state government said on Friday. According to a government statement, the total value of the free travel provided on Thursday was estimated at more than Rs 9.06 crore. UPSRTC general manager (Operations) Anil Kumar said officials and employees were working to ensure convenient and safe travel for women during Raksha Bandhan. Additional buses were deployed wherever required due to the increased passenger rush, while bus operations and passenger facilities were monitored continuously. Moradabad led with 94,789 free passengers, followed by Hardoi (82,920), Gorakhpur (68,152), Lucknow (64,590) and Bareilly (58,309).
