Over 6,000 UP workers in Israel safe; government monitoring situation
LUCKNOW, April 6 -- Amid the ongoing tense situation in Israel, over 6,000 workers from Uttar Pradesh there are completely safe, a government spokesperson said, adding that they are being regularly monitored.
According to a press release, principal secretary, (labour and employment), UP, Shanmuga Sundaram remains in constant contact with the Indian Embassy in Israel, closely monitoring the situation of Indians there-particularly the workers from Uttar Pradesh.
According to information received from the Embassy, there are no reports of any emergency or major threat. Sundaram said he is engaged in regular telephonic conversations with Indian ambassador to Israel JP Singh. In messages shared on March 11, 17, and 28, Singh conveyed that all Indian workers there are safe.
He noted that while the prevailing circumstances have naturally created some anxiety, no specific pressure or demand to return to India has been received from any worker.
The Embassy remains in constant contact with everyone, and all their needs are being duly attended to.
The ambassador said some workers from Uttar Pradesh recently hosted journalists visiting from India-an indication that the situation is under control and the workers are leading normal lives.
Garika Tejeswar, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy, also confirmed during a conversation with the principal secretary that all workers from UP are safe.
She noted that some Indian citizens-primarily businessmen and students-have voluntarily returned and the embassy facilitated their travel via Jordan, the press release read.
Should any worker wish to return, similar arrangements can be made available for them. She further said that the embassy's control room has not received any serious or emergency alerts to date and all workers are adhering to local security guidelines.
The UP government is keeping a close and serious watch on the entire matter.
The government's priority is to ensure the safety of all workers from the state currently employed abroad.
The government's message has also clearly reached the workers from the state that it stands firmly with them under any circumstances and if they wish to return home, they will be provided with every possible assistance.
Sundaram said a call centre operated by Israel's Population and Immigration Authority is also active to assist Indian workers, offering support in various languages....
