Mussoorie, Sept. 11 -- Very light to moderate rainfall occurred at isolated places across Uttarakhand in the past 24 hours, while more than 52 roads were closed due to landslides and boulder falls, officials said on Thursday. In Pithoragarh district, disaster management teams recovered the body of Kishore Kumar, a resident of Nigalpani village in Dharchula, on Wednesday evening. Kumar had fallen into a gorge after being struck by rocks that came loose from a hillside at Sarjpat in the Syankuri area under Dharchula tehsil on Tuesday night. The state recorded 1.3 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Thursday, against the normal benchmark of 6.3 mm, representing a 79% shortfall. Bageshwar recorded 4.4 mm of rainfall against its normal of 5.5 mm, a shortfall of 20%. Nainital and Uttarkashi each recorded 2.9 mm of rainfall during the period. More than 52 roads remained closed across the state due to landslides and boulder falls till Thursday evening. Pauri reported the highest number of closures at 11, followed by Nainital with 10, while nine roads each were closed in Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. Work was under way in all affected divisions to clear the debris and restore road connectivity. India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun centre, has issued a yellow alert for five days from September 10 to September 14, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and intense to very intense spells at isolated places across the state. IMD Dehradun centre officials said intense rainfall was likely in seven districts, including Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Nainital, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh, on Friday. The wet weather pattern is expected to continue into Saturday, with heavy rainfall predicted at isolated places in Dehradun, Bageshwar and Uttarkashi districts. By Sunday, heavy rainfall is expected to become more localised over the eastern Kumaon region. The heavy rain warning will be restricted to isolated places in Bageshwar and Pithoragarh, while the plains districts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are likely to experience isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning....
