New Delhi, May 17 -- More than 132,800 households across Delhi's municipal areas have completed self-enumeration under the Census 2027 exercise, with South West Delhi recording the highest participation, according to official data released on Friday. The self-enumeration exercise for the Census concluded on Friday in areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), with houselisting exercise to commence on Saturday. In areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Delhi Cantonment Board, the houselisting exercise concluded on Friday. An official involved in the Census process, who did not wish to be named, said, "The entire MCD area has been divided into 46,000 houselisting blocks, with each block comprising 180 to 200 households. Around 50,000 enumerators will be part of the houselisting operations in MCD areas." Under the houselisting operation, officials systematically map, list and geotag all buildings and households to gather data on housing conditions, amenities and asset ownership, creating the foundation for the subsequent population enumeration exercise. As per the data made available on self-enumeration in MCD areas, the exercise was completed by 132,840 households of 154,127 households who had initiated it, as of Friday evening. The South West district topped the list with 26,475 self-enumerations, followed by North West Delhi that recorded 26,155 self-enumerations and North East Delhi, with 24,027 self-enumerations. West Delhi district recorded 16,055 self-enumerations, while East Delhi registered 15,063. The lowest number of self-enumerations was recorded in the districts of Old Delhi, at 811, and Outer North, at 1,155. The number of self-enumerations in Central North was 3,505, in North was 5,567, in Central was 6,546, in South East was 6,546, in South was 9,855, and in New Delhi was 9,817. Officials noted that most low-performing districts have relatively smaller populations, while Outer North, Old Delhi and Central North were recently carved out as separate districts. In terms of completion rates, Outer North led with 91.17% completion of initiated self-enumerations, followed by Central North (91.10%), Central (87.90%) and South West (87.90%).
