One lane of Shastri Bridge to remain closed for 43 days
PRAYAGRAJ, June 1 -- One lane of Shastri Bridge will be closed for 43 days from June 3 to facilitate major repair and maintenance work, prompting traffic restrictions and diversion plans across the city and adjoining districts.
The traffic police on Sunday approved a proposal from the public works department's construction division-III to impose a traffic block on the Ganga bridge for repair work. Under the approved plan, vehicular movement on the Daraganj-to-Jhunsi carriageway of Shastri Bridge will remain suspended from June 3 to July 15.
Assistant Engineer of Construction Division-III, KS Srivastava, said bearing repair work on the bridge has already been completed. During the 43-day block period, engineers will remove the top layer of the road surface and inspect the condition of expansion joints.
To manage traffic flow during the closure, authorities have announced a detailed diversion plan for inter-district and city-bound vehicles.
Heavy vehicles travelling from Kaushambi towards Varanasi will be diverted via Kokhraj Toll Plaza and the Handia Bypass. Vehicles coming from Rewa and heading towards Varanasi will be routed through Mangawan, Kaushambi, Hanumana (Madhya Pradesh) and Mirzapur. Similarly, vehicles from Chitrakoot bound for Varanasi will travel through Rajapur, Kaushambi and Kokhraj before taking the Handia Bypass.
Goods carriers entering the city for loading and unloading will be permitted via designated routes through Kokhraj, Pura Mufti, Dhoomanganj and GT Road corridors, and will return using the same routes.
Roadways, private and tourist buses arriving from Varanasi will enter Prayagraj via Handia, Sahson and Phaphamau, while buses coming from Jaunpur will be routed through Phulpur, Sahson and Phaphamau....
