One killed, 11 injured as bus hits tractor-trolley
MEERUT, July 29 -- A 50-year-old woman was killed and 11 others were injured after a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus rammed into a brick-laden tractor-trolley on the Bilsuri flyover along GT Road in Bulandshahr's Sikandrabad area early on Tuesday.
Police said the accident occurred around 3:57 am when a roadways bus from Orai depot, carrying passengers, rammed into the rear of a brick-laden tractor-trolley on the Bilsuri flyover.
Preliminary investigation suggests the bus driver may have briefly dozed off at the wheel, causing the collision.
The deceased has been identified as Sudha (50), wife of Ravi, a resident of Firozabad.
The injured-Anushka, Sangeeta, Ram Shankar, Sunita, Suresh, Sanjeev, Ramesh Verma, Avadhesh, Shyam Babu, Laxmi, and Ajit Kumar-were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sikandrabad, where their condition is stable, said Kotwali station house officer Shailendra Pratap Singh, adding that the body of the deceased woman had been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Both the bus driver and the tractor-trolley driver fled the scene after the accident, abandoning their vehicles.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and used cranes to clear the damaged vehicles, restoring traffic on the busy GT Road, he said.
