One in 3 Indians affected by Fatty Liver Disease: Experts
Lucknow, June 12 -- Liver specialists on Thursday raised concerns over the country's growing burden of Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), a severe form of fatty liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis and liver cancer if left untreated.

Marking Global NASH Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of June, the department of hepatology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, organised a series of awareness and academic activities aimed at highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and prevention of the disease.
The event was inaugurated by SGPGIMS dean, prof Shaleen Kumar, head of hepatology. Addressing the gathering, experts emphasised that obesity and diabetes-both highly prevalent in India-are the leading risk factors for fatty liver disease.
They warned that while India is already considered a global hotspot for obesity and diabetes, it could also emerge as the "fatty liver disease capital" of the world if preventive measures are not prioritised....
