LUCKNOW, Nov. 4 -- Uttar Pradesh's batting was exposed to the hilt even on Day One of their four-day Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy Elite Group B encounter against hosts Railways on Tuesday as Om Singh claimed six wickets to give the home side a good start. With Singh's performance, Railways bowled Uttar Pradesh out for 179 before reaching 75 for three, at the Railway Cricket Ground, Rajkot. At stumps, Railways trail by 104 runs with seven wickets in hand. Uttar Pradesh chose to bat but found scoring difficult against a disciplined Railways attack. Opener Swastik Chikara provided the early momentum with a brisk 40 from 29 balls, striking three fours and three sixes, while Sameer Rizvi's 16 came at better than a run a ball. However, regular wickets prevented UP from building a substantial partnership. Deepak Rajput made a patient 23 and wicket-keeper Kaartikaya Singh added 20, but UP slipped from 114 for six to 137 for nine in quick time. Vishal Nishad's 18 helped the side reach 179 in 55.5 overs, with 10 extras. Om Singh was the standout bowler, taking 6/71 in 15.5 overs. Arpit Yadav supported him with 2/25, while Bhagwan Singh and Garv Sangwan took one wicket apiece. Dharmendra Thakur was especially economical, conceding just seven runs in six overs. Railways' reply began shakily. Jayant Kaiwart fell for nine with the score at 22, and although Deepanshu Chaudhary made 25, he was trapped lbw by Vipraj Nigam at 39. Madhava Dharwadkar added 12 before becoming Ayush Choudhary's victim, leaving Railways 49 for three. Abhishek Kaushal (12 not out) and Virat Jaiswal (16 not out) then steadied the innings, guiding Railways to 75 for three at the close from 30 overs. Nigam was the pick of the UP bowlers with 2 for 22 from 12 probing overs, while Choudhary took 1 for 14....
