PRAYAGRAJ, July 23 -- A private nursing home was sealed in Pratapgarh district on Wednesday following the death of a 24-year-old woman during treatment. Her death triggered protests by her family, who alleged medical negligence. The body was sent for postmortem more than six-and-a-half hours later as relatives refused to allow its removal until action was taken against the doctor. Deputy chief medical officer Dr Azad Ahmad visited the nursing home. Following an inspection, he ordered the sealing of the nursing home. "The nursing home has been sealed till further orders based on lacunas found during inspection and in light of the allegations. Further action will be based on further probe findings," he said. The family alleged that following Sumitra's death, the doctor offered them money and a vehicle and suggested they get her examined elsewhere, following which they accused the nursing home of negligence and staged a protest. As tensions escalated, the nursing home's staff allegedly fled the premises. Police personnel, including Patti SHO Anand Singh Bhadauria, reached the spot and attempted to pacify the aggrieved family, assuring them of appropriate action. However, the relatives insisted on the registration of an FIR against the doctor and his immediate arrest. Bhadauria said the family has alleged that the woman died due to medical negligence during treatment. "The body has been sent for a postmortem examination.
