Noida proposes expansion amid rising industrial demand
LUCKNOW, Oct. 13 -- The Noida Authority has proposed developing 'New Noida' across 20,000 hectares to meet rising industrial demand, with a target of generating 5-6 lakh direct and indirect jobs by 2030. Noida Authority CEO Krishan Karunesh said the city, established in 1976, had emerged as north India's economic hub but was now saturated.
Spread across 20,000 hectares and 168 sectors, Noida has developed 90% of its area, excluding floodplains. Over the past 30-35 years, it has made 9,500 industrial, 5,000 commercial and over 250 institutional allotments, generating more than 12 lakh jobs. New Noida will serve as Noida's second growth engine, with land acquisition planned in phases. The state government is also working on a policy to allow additional floor area ratio (FAR) in existing Noida to enable vertical expansion, it said on Monday.
The move comes amid a major investment pipeline. The upcoming fifth groundbreaking ceremony will feature around 120 industrial proposals worth nearly Rs.35,000 crore across sectors including data centres, electronics, logistics, commercial real estate and institutions.
Connectivity will be key to the expansion, with three proposed metro corridors linking Noida to the Boraki multimodal transport hub, Botanical Garden and Gaur City via Char Murti.
The city is already connected through the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, DND Flyway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
The Authority is also accelerating development of future sectors, promoting data centres, electronics and logistics while encouraging research and development in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and battery technology.
The figures underline Noida's economic significance: it contributes 10% of Uttar Pradesh's GSDP, 60% of the state's electronics and IT exports, and nearly 80% of its apparel exports. Major companies, including Samsung, Dixon, TCS, Infosys, HCL, Microsoft, Wipro, Adobe, Sify and AdaniConneX, have established significant operations in the city, the CEO said. "New Noida will boost industrial growth, strengthen infrastructure, attract investment and reinforce Uttar Pradesh's manufacturing ecosystem," he added....
