LUCKNOW, May 4 -- The Lucknow Traffic Police has started a month-long awareness and compliance campaign for vehicle owners yet to install High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), giving them time until June 1 before stricter action begins. The drive, launched on May 2, comes as a large number of vehicles in the city are still running without HSRP despite the plates being mandatory. HSRP plates are tamper-proof and standardised, helping authorities identify vehicles, trace stolen ones and prevent their alleged use in criminal activities. Police also use the system to improve vehicle monitoring and surveillance. Raveena Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (Traffic), said the campaign will focus on informing motorists about the HSRP registration process, including online booking, its importance and installation procedures. During this 30-day period, traffic police said enforcement will remain minimal, with priority given to awareness. "But "minimal" doesn't mean absent. Vehicles without HSRP will still technically be in violation, and action can be taken if required," read details shared by traffic department. According to traffic police, from June 1 a full enforcement drive will begin....
