NHAI reopens Sanjay Setu ahead of schedule
Lucknow, June 9 -- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reopened the Sanjay Setu to light vehicular traffic on June 8, nearly a week ahead of the scheduled completion date of June 15.
The bridge had remained closed since April 16.
The early completion of repairs marks a signifi- cant achievement for NHAI, as the project was executed within a compressed timeline while ensuring structural safety and operational readiness.
Heavy vehicles, however, will be allowed to use the bridge from June 16 after final assessments and traffic management arrangements are completed.
The reopening is expected to ease travel for lakhs of commuters who depend on the crucial link connecting Lucknow and Barabanki with Bahraich, Shravasti, Gonda and Balrampur districts.
Sanjay Setu serves as a vital transport corridor in the region, facilitating daily commuting, movement of goods and access to key economic and social centres.
The bridge plays an important role in maintaining connectivity between several districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh and the state capital.
Officials said the repair work included critical structural improvements aimed at enhancing the bridge's safety, durability and long-term performance....
