Newly installed LDA streetlights malfunctionwithin months, commuters left in the dark
LUCKNOW, June 1 -- Streetlights installed recently by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) at a cost of several lakhs have started malfunctioning on key stretches within months of their inauguration, raising concerns over the quality of infrastructure work and maintenance of newly launched projects.
During an HT visit on Friday and Saturday, it was found that several streetlights along the Green Corridor between Central Academy School and Nishatganj had stopped functioning, creating dark patches on the road and inconveniencing commuters.
Similar issues emerged on the nearly 900-metre stretch connecting the area near 1090 Crossing to the old DG office under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Project, where more than 18 streetlights remain defunct.
The failure of newly installed lights has triggered questions about the quality of electrical work undertaken by the authority. Residents and daily commuters said the dark stretches compromise road safety and increase the risk of accidents, particularly during late evening hours.
Notably, both projects were launched and inaugurated this year as part of LDA's urban infrastructure initiatives.
However, the lighting systems have already begun showing signs of deterioration, even before completing a year of operation.
Despite the growing complaints, no large-scale inspection or repair drive has been undertaken to restore the faulty lights.
When contacted for a response, LDA Executive Engineer (Electrical) Manoj Sagar remained unavailable for comment....
