LUCKNOW, July 8 -- The three-member inquiry committee constituted by the hospital administration questioned doctors, nurses and other staff on duty at Lok Bandhu Raj Narayan (LBRN) Hospital on Tuesday as part of its probe into the death of a newborn who allegedly fell to the floor during delivery. The committee separately questioned the three women doctors posted in the labour room during the delivery and also recorded statements of staff nurses, ward attendants and other personnel present at the time. It sought to establish the sequence of events, the responsibilities assigned to each staff member and whether standard medical protocols were followed. As part of the probe, the committee has taken possession of the patient's case sheet, treatment records, duty roster and other documents related to the delivery. The records are being examined alongside staff statements to verify the family's allegations and reconstruct the sequence of events. Chief medical superintendent Dr PC Tiwari said the inquiry panel is cross-checking the written complaint submitted by the family with the statements of doctors, nurses and other employees. The committee is expected to submit its findings after examining all the evidence. Earlier on Monday, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the health portfolio, had directed the director-general of the medical and health department to conduct an inquiry into the matter. Shubham Pal, a resident of Ashiana's Sector H, had admitted his wife, Kirti Pal, to the hospital on Sunday evening after she went into labour. Shubham alleged that no senior gynaecologist was present during the delivery and that attendants were attempting to conduct a normal delivery. He claimed that despite repeated requests to call a senior doctor when labour was prolonged, the staff continued with the delivery. According to the family's complaint, the newborn slipped and fell to the floor immediately after birth, leading to the infant's death....
