VARANASI, July 7 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state vice-president Neeraj Singh on Monday said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is not merely a new academic framework but a modern expression of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee's vision for education and his nationalist ideals. He was addressing a student conference at Sanskritik Sankul in Chaukaghat as part of the BJP's Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Birth Anniversary Commemoration Fortnight. Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked to realise Dr Mookerjee's vision by promoting mother-tongue education, Indian knowledge traditions, art, culture and holistic development through the National Education Policy. He urged students to take inspiration from Dr Mookerjee's life and imbibe the values of patriotism, national unity and love for the country. Singh said Dr Mookerjee, who became the youngest vice-chancellor of Calcutta University at 33, promoted Bengali as a medium of instruction and encouraged the use of Indian languages in education. He added that the National Education Policy's emphasis on the three-language formula, mother-tongue education, Indian knowledge systems, art, technical education and cultural values reflects Dr Mookerjee's vision of holistic learning beyond textbooks. Newly appointed BJP Kashi region president Ashok Chaurasia and Varanasi district president Ramsakal Patel were felicitated with traditional angavastrams and bouquets.
