Nashik police team studies Prayagraj's Mela mgmt ahead of Simhastha Kumbh
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 19 -- A special team of Maharashtra Police, led by Nashik police commissioner Sandeep Karnik, arrived in Prayagraj on Tuesday for a two-day visit to study crowd and disaster management practices adopted during the mega religious fair of Mahakumbh and annual Magh Mela.
The visit comes ahead of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh, with the team seeking to learn from police officers who have handled security and crowd management during major bathing festivals in Prayagraj, officials said.
On the first day, the team met Prayagraj police commissioner Piyush Mordia, additional commissioner of police Ajaypal Sharma and other officers who had been deployed during the Mahakumbh and Magh Mela. The officers briefed the Maharashtra team on key aspects of policing and security arrangements at the fair.
The discussions covered measures to ease crowd pressure, one-way movement and diversion plans for pilgrims, deployment of additional police personnel during major bathing days and surveillance of vulnerable locations, shared additional commissioner of police Ajaypal Sharma.
The Nashik team studied crowd and disaster management, water safety, traffic, lost-and-found services, emergency response, inter-department coordination, CCTV and control rooms, and police strategies....
