Haldwani, July 13 -- In a crackdown on alleged habitual offenders, Nainital district magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal has ordered the externment of four people from the district for six months under the Uttarakhand Control of Goondas Act, officials said on Sunday. The district administration has also dropped proceedings against three others after reviewing their cases. According to officials, Rohit Pandey, son of Madan Pandey and a resident of Bedhajhal in Ramnagar, has been externed after authorities cited his involvement in multiple criminal cases. Officials said nine cases have been registered against him under the Arms Act, the Gangsters Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). While he has been acquitted in some cases, several others are still pending before various courts. The administration also referred to allegations of his involvement in election-related offences and firing a licensed pistol in a public place while issuing the externment order. Dev Singh Jatav, son of Raghuvir and a resident of Gadi Padav in Nainital, has also been externed for six months. Officials said he is facing several criminal cases, including those related to theft, possession of stolen property, offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The district administration further ordered the externment of Gaurav Mehndi Ratta, a resident of Awas Vikas, who is facing more than six criminal cases registered under the IPC and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Himanshu Pant alias 'Patakha', also a resident of Awas Vikas, against whom 14 criminal cases have been registered, including those under the Arms Act, the NDPS Act, and Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC. Meanwhile, proceedings under the Uttarakhand Control of Goondas Act were dropped against Chandan Takuli of Tiwari Nagar in Bindukhatta, Vishwanath of Bengali Colony in Lalkuan, and Jeevan Kanwal of Kathgodam after a review of their cases by the district administration....
