Rudrapur, Aug. 22 -- Nainital district administration has identified 109 villages where incidents of human-wildlife conflict have frequently occurred and sanctioned an additional Rs.2.5 crore from the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) to mitigate the problem, officials said on Friday. District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal said several people had lost their lives in human-wildlife conflicts in the district, while farmers had also suffered losses to agricultural and horticultural crops due to the movement of wild animals. "Several people have lost their lives in human-wildlife conflicts in the district. Besides this, farmers have been suffering losses to agriculture and horticulture due to wild animals. Nainital district is famous for agriculture and horticulture; therefore, it is our priority to protect their interests and human lives," Rayal said. He said red zones had been identified following a joint study by the forest, agriculture and horticulture departments of areas where such incidents had taken place over the past five to 10 years....
