MVVNL cracks down on power theft
LUCKNOW, June 3 -- With the Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (MVVNL) stepping up enforcement, inspections, and network monitoring across Lucknow to ensure uninterrupted power supply, large-scale disconnection drives were carried out and FIRs were registered against major defaulters and consumers involved in electricity theft. The action was taken across multiple divisions, including Gomti Nagar, Amausi, Central Lucknow, and Jankipuram, on Monday and Tuesday, officials said.
In Gomti Nagar, intensive night surveillance was carried out across feeders under Sector-25 and Sarvodaya Nagar substations to assess load during peak hours. During a raid in the Amausi division, enforcement and vigilance teams inspected 73 connections and detected eight cases of theft through meter bypassing, officials said.
The accused consumers, including residents of Prabhatpuram and adjacent localities, were found illegally drawing electricity in violation of Section 135 of the Electricity Act. FIRs have been registered against all offenders, and further legal proceedings are underway, officials said....
