Muz'nagar's Shukrateerth Dham set for major tourism infra boost
MEERUT, July 25 -- Shukrateerth Dham in Muzaffarnagar is set for a major facelift, with the Uttar Pradesh government proposing key infrastructure upgrades, including a new parikrama route and a dedicated approach road to Hanumant Dham, as part of a broader push to strengthen religious tourism across the Saharanpur division.
The proposed projects were reviewed on Friday during a divisional tourism meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh. The meeting covered 14 proposals under the tourism department's 2026-27 action plan, with a combined estimated cost of nearly Rs.22 crore, along with proposals submitted by the culture and religious affairs departments.
According to the proposals, Shukrateerth Dham will get two tourism projects worth Rs.5 crore each, including a dedicated parikrama route and construction of an approach road linking the main entrance to Hanumant Dham.
During the meeting, Singh also reviewed tourism infrastructure projects at Shukrateerth worth around Rs.65 crore that are either under implementation or already completed.
Emphasising timely execution, Jaiveer Singh directed officials to ensure that all tourism projects are completed according to schedule and meet high quality standards.
The tourism department's 2026-27 action plan includes eight proposals from Saharanpur district, five from Muzaffarnagar and one from Shamli. Separate proposals from the Culture and Religious Affairs departments were also reviewed during the meeting.
Beyond Shukrateerth, the proposed tourism projects focus on improving visitor facilities at several prominent religious sites across the division while preserving their cultural and religious identity.
The culture department presented a proposal for the restoration and beautification of the historic Ramlila ground in Nakur. Under the religious affairs department, officials reviewed a proposal estimated at Rs.1.84 crore for the development of seven Shiva temples across the division, including temples at Puvaraka, Sakalpuri and Bhaupura, along with other locally significant religious sites....
