LUCKNOW, June 3 -- Indu Mathuria, a yogasana athlete and yoga science postgraduate from Muzaffarnagar, will represent India at the World Yogasana Championship in Ahmedabad from June 4 to 8. A national champion in the Rhythmic Pair category, Indu's rise reflects years of disciplined training rooted in a traditional gurukul upbringing. Indu began practising yogasanas as part of daily life at a Gurukul from Class 5, long before the activity evolved into a competitive sport for her. That early immersion shaped both her technique and mental approach, turning routine into ritual. At Patanjali University, where she pursued her postgraduate studies, a strict schedule became central to her progress: a 4:30 a.m wake-up, two-and-a-half hours of morning yoga and pranayama, followed by evening sessions focusing on strength and flexibility. Her Head of Department-an Asian medallist herself-provided mentorship that accelerated Indu's competitive development. Specialising in Rhythmic Pair, Indu performs synchronized sequences of ten asanas with a partner, maintaining proximity and musical timing throughout the routine. Her competitive resume is impressive. Gold at the 5th National Yogasana Championship (Rhythmic Pair), gold at the India University Games, gold and bronze at the Asmita Yoga Assam Games, silver at the 16th National Championship, and a medal in the artistic group event at the National Games are some key achievements of hers. Throughout her journey she has been supported by her father, a government school teacher, whose encouragement helped sustain her ambitions. Speaking to young aspirants, Indu advises: "Practice with discipline. Never stop practising, even when you feel demotivated. Have faith in your hard work, and keep doing it."
