PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 5 -- A man wanted in a mobile phone snatching case and a robbery was arrested after a shoot out with police in Kaushambi late Monday night. The accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg in retaliatory firing after allegedly opening fire on a police team. He was treated at a hospital before being sent to jail, police said. The accused, identified as Pradeep, son of Kishan and a resident of Panbhara Mandar Mod under Puramufti police station in Prayagraj, was carrying a .315-bore country-made pistol, two live cartridges and two empty shells, police said. The arrest is linked to the July 31 mobile snatching incident in Kasenda village under Pipri police station. Complainant Tausif Ahmad alleged that three motorcycle-borne youths snatched his mobile phone while he was talking near his house. Villagers caught one of the accused on the spot, while two others escaped. Police said a team led by sub-inspector Vidhan Chandra Rai spotted two motorcycle-borne suspects during patrol in the Manauri area on Monday night. When signalled to stop, they allegedly fled, triggering a chase by teams from Pipri and Charwa police stations. The suspects abandoned their motorcycle near Gungwa Bagh and allegedly opened fire while trying to escape through bushes. Police retaliated, injuring Pradeep, while his accomplice escaped. "During questioning, Pradeep allegedly confessed to his involvement, along with two associates, in the Kasenda mobile snatching case and a robbery under Charwa police station limits. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused," said Shivank Singh, DSP, Chayal. A 56-year-old woman was killed after being struck by lightning while supervising ploughing work in her field in Belwania village of Koraon tehsil on Tuesday morning, police said. The deceased was identified as Gulab Devi, wife of Ram Ujagir Tiwari and a resident of Tiwari Ka Pura hamlet in Belwania village. She had gone to her field where a tractor was ploughing the land amid light rain. According to local residents, several farmers were working in nearby fields when lightning struck with a loud thunderclap. Gulab Devi, who was standing on the field embankment, collapsed along with others. While the others recovered, villagers found Gulab Dev i critically burnt and unresponsive. She had died on the spot....
