MLC polls: SP chief tells party leaders to work unitedly
GORAKHPUR, Oct. 11 -- Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has urged party leaders in Gorakhpur to work unitedly to ensure the victory of the party's candidate in the Gorakhpur-Faizabad teachers' constituency Legislative Council (MLC) election. Expressing confidence in the party's prospects in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, he also sought to reassure party leaders amid internal differences.
During a 25-minute stop at Gorakhpur airport on Friday, Yadav interacted with around 20 senior party leaders and office-bearers of a teachers' organisation while returning to Lucknow from Deoria. Addressing the gathering, he acknowledged the pressure faced by party leaders and said, "I understand that you are under immense pressure, but everything is going to be over soon."
Yadav discussed preparations for the Gorakhpur-Faizabad teachers' constituency MLC election and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to secure the party's victory. He urged leaders to extend their full support to Dr Sanjayan Tripathi, the SP candidate, and intensify the election campaign.
Tripathi joined the SP on October 3 after being denied a BJP ticket. The party subsequently replaced its earlier nominee, Kamlesh Yadav, with Tripathi.
The SP chief also spoke to former district president Ram Nageena Sahani and enquired about the alleged assault on him at the Gorakhpur Press Club. Sahani was reportedly slapped during a dispute over seating arrangements at a party press conference....
