mla's brothers booked for forcing women to join congress
Dehradun, Oct. 26 -- An FIR has been registered in Dehradun against two brothers of senior Congress leader and six-time MLA Pritam Singh from Chakrata for allegedly threatening an electricity department lineman to force his daughters to join the party, police said on Sunday.
The police action followed after chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to the lineman's daughter, Diksha, over the phone and directed SSP Pramendra Dobhal to take strict action in the matter.
The FIR was lodged at the Tyuni police station on Saturday evening against former Zila Panchayat chairman Chaman Singh Chauhan and Rajpal Singh based on a complaint by lineman Balak Ram Chauhan, under sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of BNS.
Chauhan stated that his two daughters contested the recent student union elections at the local government college. "On October 7, I received three threatening calls from the accused attempting to forcefully coerce my daughters into joining the Congress. They hurled abuses and behaved unparliamentarily," it alleged. "After learning that I had recorded the calls, they began threatening me and my family. They also barged into the sub-station along with anti-social elements in my absence."
There was no immediate reaction to the lineman's allegations from the MLA or the state Congress leadership....
