Miscreants threaten officials, free truck driver in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, April 12 -- Miscreants allegedly created chaos during an enforcement drive against illegal sand mining in the Naini area, threatening officials and forcibly freeing a truck driver. A purported video of the incident has surfaced online. The incident reportedly took place two days ago.
According to a complaint filed by Vaibhav Kumar Soni, mining inspector, information was received around 11 pm on April 9 about illegal sand mining and transportation from the Yamuna River in Mauka, Mirakhpur and Baswar villages. Acting on the district magistrate's instructions, a joint team led by the additional district magistrate (administration) and the senior mining officer conducted a raid.
During the operation in Baswar village, officials intercepted a truck loaded with sand. The driver allegedly failed to produce valid transport documents. The vehicle and driver were being taken to Naini police station under security escort.
Near a railway overbridge on the road from Leprosy Crossing towards Dandi, four individuals in two SUVs without number plates allegedly blocked the road. They reportedly abused officials and threatened to shoot mining staff and security personnel.
The video purportedly shows the accused using abusive language and issuing threats. As police reached the spot, one SUV allegedly fled, while the other got stuck in traffic, leading to the arrest of two individuals. The arrested accused were identified as Ashish Shukla and Anoop Mishra and were taken to the police station. Sunil Kumar Singh, ACP Karchhana, said that while the accused allegedly misbehaved, reports of physical assault on officials have not been confirmed.
A 24-year-old youth allegedly drowned while filming a social media reel at a dam on the Bakulahi river near Auwar village in Pratapgarh on Saturday evening. The deceased, Aniket Vaish of Chilbila, had gone with four friends. He and another youth were swept into deep water, but only one was rescued. Local divers searched till late evening without success. Pushpraj Singh, SHO, said an SDRF team from Prayagraj has been called to intensify the search.
A 25-year-old youth allegedly died after consuming poison following an assault in Sariyapur village of Jethwara area in Pratapgarh on Friday. The deceased, identified as Pradeep from Jalesarganj under Lalganj Kotwali, had reportedly gone to meet a woman when her family allegedly assaulted him.
He was taken to CHC Gajrahi and later referred to a medical college, where he died during treatment. SHO Ehsanul Haq said no written complaint has been received and the body was handed over after postmortem examination.
A 28-year-old married woman allegedly died after consuming a poisonous substance at her parental home in Jethwara, Pratapgarh on Saturday, police said. Married two years ago, she had delivered a baby girl two months earlier and was staying at her parental home since then. Her condition deteriorated after the incident and she was rushed to a medical college, then referred to Prayagraj, but died on the way. Police sent the body for postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death....
