Minor girl allegedly raped in Pratapgarh; case filed
PRAYAGRAJ, June 17 -- A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth from her village while returning home from a feast in Pratapgarh district late Monday night. Police registered a case on Tuesday and have sent the victim for a medical examination.
According to police, the incident occurred in a village near Diwanganj Bazaar within the Kandhai police station area. The girl had attended a local event on Monday evening; while walking home after dinner, she was intercepted by the accused, who allegedly dragged her to a secluded spot and raped her. The victim reported the assault to her family upon reaching home that night. When relatives went to the accused's house to confront him, they found he had already fled.
On Tuesday, the victim and her family submitted a written complaint to the police. While members of the accused's family arrived at the station shortly after, police proceeded with filing a rape case based on the complaint from the victim's father.
Station house officer (SHO) Aditya Singh noted that the girl and the accused had been in communication via Instagram prior to the incident. He added that the victim expressed a desire to marry the accused. The police are now awaiting her statement before a magistrate to determine the next steps in the investigation.
The body of a 19-year-old youth who drowned in the Ganga while attempting to save his father at Kaleshwar Ghat was recovered on Tuesday, nearly 24 hours after the incident.
The deceased was identified as Piyush Soni, a resident of Dhata in Fatehpur district. His body was found approximately one kilometer downstream from where he disappeared on Monday morning.
According to police, Piyush's father, Ajay Soni, had visited Kaleshwar Ganga Ghat in the Kada Dham area of Kaushambi district with eight or nine family members to mark Somvati Amavasya. While bathing at around 8:00 am on Monday, Ajay ventured into deep water and began to drown.
Seeing his father in distress, Piyush immediately jumped into the river to attempt a rescue. While local divers successfully pulled Ajay Soni to safety, Piyush was swept away by the strong currents. A search operation involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local divers was launched under the supervision of Kada Dham SHO Inspector Vineet Singh.
The body was recovered at approximately 7:00 am on Tuesday and has been sent for a postmortem examination, police said.
Police on Tuesday arrested four persons for the murder of a 60-year-old man in Benia Bagh area. The accused, identified as Vishal Bharatiya (20), Vikas Vishwakarma (24), Sujeet Valmeeki (19) and another youth (18), were held following an investigation and a tip-off. ACP Atul Anjan Tripathi said prime accused Vishal confessed to killing Rajan, alleging the victim's occult practices had caused deaths in his family. Rajan, a Mirzapur resident, was shot dead while attending a relative's marriage function.
PRAYAGRAJ: A 17-year-old girl climbed a mobile tower in Kunda town of Pratapgarh district on Tuesday after her boyfriend allegedly stopped talking to her and switched off his phone. She came down after police, local residents and revenue officials counselled her for several hours.
Police said the girl, a resident of a village near Kunda, was in a relationship with a boy from Jalesarganj village under Lalganj police station limits. The boy had reportedly stopped communicating with her and switched off his mobile phone despite repeated calls. Upset over the situation, the girl reached Faredupur locality and climbed the tower, demanding that the boy be brought before her....
