Mining dept fines 636 vehicles for overloading
Lucknow, May 21 -- The Uttar Pradesh Geology and Mining Department on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs.2.93 crore on around 636 vehicles for overloading during a special enforcement drive carried out across various districts.
An intensive inspection campaign was conducted in districts, including Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Saharanpur and Chitrakoot, to check illegal mining, illegal transportation of minerals and overloading.
Several vehicles were inspected during the drive. While most vehicles operated with valid transportation documents, some were found illegally transporting minerals and carrying overloaded consignments.
Mala Srivastava, secretary and director of the Geology and Mining Department, said officers posted in interstate border districts have been directed to ensure that minerals entering from other states are transported only with valid ISTP documents. She said movement of overloaded vehicles would not be allowed.
She added that prescribed loading standards should be strictly enforced at mining source points and strict action should be taken against violators if any irregularity or rule violation is reported....
