Meerut, July 27 -- In a major security and public assistance initiative ahead of the Kanwar Yatra 2026, Uttar Pradesh Police has established four temporary police stations and 58 temporary police outposts across the Meerut zone to ensure the safety of millions of Shiva devotees expected to participate in the annual pilgrimage. The special arrangements were put in place four days before the commencement of the holy month of Shravan on July 30, enabling authorities to streamline security, crowd management, and emergency response well before the influx of pilgrims begins. Meerut Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kalanidhi Naithani said the temporary police infrastructure was created to maintain law and order along the Kanwar routes and at pilgrimage camps, facilitate smooth crowd movement, provide swift police response during emergencies, and offer immediate assistance to devotees throughout the yatra. As part of the deployment, one temporary police station was established in each of the four districts under the Meerut zone. In addition, 58 temporary outposts were set up, including nine in Meerut, 17 in Bulandshahr, 11 in Baghpat, and 21 in Hapur. Police personnel were deployed at all these locations to ensure round-the-clock security and assistance. The DIG directed officials to make every temporary police station and outpost pilgrim-friendly. Each facility will feature QR codes that devotees can scan to access information on Kanwar routes, nearby public amenities, and other essential services. Authorities have also been instructed to establish help desks and first-aid facilities at every outpost to provide immediate support to pilgrims in need. Police personnel deployed during the yatra have been directed to maintain discipline, respond promptly to every report or emergency, interact courteously with devotees, remain vigilant against suspicious activities, and provide first aid to injured or unwell Kanwariyas before ensuring their timely transportation to hospitals whenever required. To strengthen monitoring and coordination, all temporary police stations and outposts have been mapped using GPS coordinates, allowing the police control room and senior officers to track their operations in real time. Officials said each facility has also been equipped with essential infrastructure, including communication systems, electricity, drinking water, lighting, furniture, and other basic amenities to ensure uninterrupted functioning throughout the pilgrimage....
