Meerut, Aug. 18 -- A woman sub-inspector posted at the Police Lines in Meerut has been suspended for allegedly violating the Uttar Pradesh Police Department's social media policy by posting objectionable videos and sharing a QR code alongside one of her social media posts. The suspended officer, identified as sub-inspector Anu, is reportedly active on social media and operates channels on platforms including YouTube and Instagram. She regularly posts content related to gym workouts, exercise, fitness and healthy living, besides sharing details about her personal life. Her social media profiles also identify her as a sub-inspector of the Uttar Pradesh Police. The controversy erupted after Anu shared a QR code along with one of her videos. A social media vlogger who posts content related to UPSC preparation subsequently reshared the video and raised questions over the conduct and image of a police officer on social media. The post triggered a discussion online, with claims that the QR code had allegedly been shared for soliciting money. The development raised concerns within the police department. However, officials have also found during the preliminary examination that none of the videos attributed to the sub-inspector showed her wearing the police uniform. After the video went viral, Meerut senior superintendent of police (SSP) Avinash Pandey took cognisance of the matter and ordered the immediate suspension of the sub-inspector. Meerut SP (Crime) Avnish Kumar confirmed the action and said the suspension was imposed for a clear violation of the police department's social media policy in connection with the objectionable video.
