Dehradun, June 2 -- The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) on Monday sealed an allegedly "unauthorised" mosque in Thano.
The order said that a case was registered in November 2024 against the Jama Masjid Thano Committee for operating a mosque on the ground and first floors of a 176-square-metre building in Kandogal village without approval under the Uttarakhand Town and Country Planning and Development Act, 1973. "Following the hearing, MDDA passed a sealing order and sealed the first floor of the structure on December 17, 2025," the order said.
The authority said the masjid committee had sought 20-25 days to arrange alternative accommodation for the imam and other associates. A fresh hearing was held on January 7, 2026, but the committee failed to submit documents for a compounding map. The online compounding application was cancelled on April 25 after objections raised remained unresolved. Local Muslims said they would move the high court against the sealing order....
